and ordinary people with the declaration of state of
emergency vowing to crush Maoist rebels to bring
''peace and and stability with democracy'' in Nepal.

A PROTEST LETTER TO INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH
To: His/Her Excellency High Commissioner of India to UK
London, UK
C/O His Excellency Rt Hon the Indian Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh
SUBJECT: PROTEST LETTER
Nepal and India have been sharing a long open border over
the centuries. Especially after the Friendship Treaty in
1950 between both countries, thousands of people on a
daily basis cross the border without any restrictions to
travel, seek employment, education, medical treatment and
so on to each other’s countries. But, unfortunately, once
more, this normal procedure has been hampered due to the
Indian governments’ undemocratic and hegemonic attitude.

A representative of Nepali Samaj, gave a talk on
publice meeting organised by Refugee Project, UK
Nepal is in a critical situation. Two years ago King
Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah (the so-called constitutional
monarch since June, 2001, in the aftermath of the
Royal Massarcre on June 1, 2001) dissolved parliament.
Since then he has appointed three prime ministers and
dissolved all local governments – the situation is out of
control. Amnesty/ Crisis group (USA) has stated that Nepal
is one of the worst places for human rights - 11,000
people have been killed. Local human rights groups say
around 1,000 people have disappeared, there is no concrete
record but 10,00,000s people have been displaced
internally, many of whom have gone to India through the
open border. They are not recognized as refugees as there
is no agreement between India and Nepal.
